A Word from Superintendent Carmen Garcia:
A Word from Superintendent Carmen Garcia:
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2010-2011 school year. I hope your summer vacation provided each of you with an opportunity to rest and prepare for the incoming academic year. I am eagerly awaiting the return of our students to our three campuses where we are preparing to offer them a rigorous and standards-based education aimed to support their academic goals and future career endeavors.
As your new Superintendent, it is my hope to listen, to read, and to learn so that I can carefully evaluate the data that will serve to set the direction for our school district. I look forward to the conversations I will hold with many of you. In the next few weeks, I will be sending a survey to gather input from your experience as a parent in our school system and your expectations. It is my goal to provide your children with the appropriate tools so that he/she may be successful.
I will be holding monthly "Coffee with Carmen/Café con Carmen" gatherings in our district's community room. The first of these will be held on Wednesday, August 25th at 5 pm. Join me for an informal conversational session over baked goods and a delicious cup of coffee (courtesy of our very own food services department). We are excited about a new communication tool that will serve to keep you abreast of the information from our respective schools – “Alert Now” will allow us to send you automated attendance and informational messages via phone, text, and/or email. In addition to this, we will also be providing you with access to a “Parent Experience” interface – a web based tool which will allow you to review attendance, grades, and other important information about your child’s education and performance. We plan to unveil our new and improved web page within the next few weeks. We hope to provide pertinent information and resources to help you and your student navigate through the Borrego Unified School District.
I look forward to the school year ahead and of raising expectations in student achievement, behavior and dress. I appreciate our partnership in this endeavor.
Sincerely,

Dr. Carmen García
